The High Line in New York City is an “environmentally correct” project in the truest sense of the word. The High Line adds a new sense of place to the environment of NYC, giving us a new way to experience the city through the use of a once derelict structure. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the project (now partially complete), The High Line is envisioned as a raised garden walkway or esplanade starting from the Meat Packing District at 12th street and going north along the Hudson River and ending near the Jacob Javits Center. Built upon a long abandoned elevated roadway, the High Line meanders through the new Standard Hotel as well as other structures new and old, all the while insulating you from the traffic of the city below. It is a refreshing reinterpretation of the urban experience that the famed Modern Architect, Le Corbusier (who prophesized such things almost a century ago), would have been pleased to see.
